MBAI-106 IT Applications – Unit 10
Objectives: differentiate between types of memory and needs of the memory system; differentiate between various types of memories such as semiconductor, magnetic and Optical memory; describe the various secondary storage devices such as Hard-disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM etc; and describe the importance of the memory hierarchy.
Materials:

Questions:
- Suppose in your library the following types of memory are present: RAM, ROM, PROM, EPROM, and EEPROM. Differentiate between these memories on the basis of their volatility.
- Explain the following terms with respect to. magnetic memory: (i) Seek time and Latency time (ii) Track, sectors and cylinder.
- Differentiate between Primary (main) memory versus secondary memory.
- Differentiate between Different types of memory (in terms of access speed, storage capacity and cost per bit storage).
- Differentiate between Random versus Sequential access.
